Chiselmouth (Acrocheilus alutaceus) — species reference image

Acrocheilus alutaceus

Chiselmouth is a native Idaho freshwater fish listed by Idaho Fish and Game in the minnow family, Cyprinidae. The agency's Brownlee Reservoir planner calls it “Chiselmouth Chub”; both names refer to Acrocheilus alutaceus. Its 1996 survey observation is historical evidence, not a recent population assessment. The species catalog also records the common names hardmouth and squaremouth. Presence alone does not establish legal targeting, harvest or access.

Recorded in Brownlee Reservoir in 1996. No precise capture site or habitat preference is established by the reviewed water-level listing.

Chiselmouth Fishing Regulations & Limits

A recorded association does not establish that targeting or retaining Chiselmouth is permitted. Confirm current species protections, seasonal and emergency closures, reach-specific rules, gear restrictions, bag and size limits with the responsible fisheries authority before fishing. A fishing license does not override these restrictions. Outland Atlas's regulation records may be incomplete; missing rules do not mean unrestricted fishing.
